About the JPG to WebP
WebP compresses better than both JPEG and PNG — typically twenty-five to thirty-five per cent smaller at the same visual quality. On a page carrying a dozen images that is a meaningful difference to how quickly it loads, and it is why every major site has moved to it.
Browser support is no longer a reason to hesitate: every current browser has supported WebP for years. The remaining gaps are outside the browser — older desktop software, some print workflows and a few upload forms still refuse it, so WebP is the right choice for the web and the wrong one for a file you are emailing to someone.
It also handles transparency, which JPEG cannot, so a PNG logo converted to WebP keeps its transparent background while getting substantially smaller. That combination is the reason WebP replaces both formats rather than just one.
The quality slider controls the trade-off directly. Ninety-two per cent is visually indistinguishable from the source for almost any image; for web use, seventy-five to eighty-five is usually plenty and saves considerably more.
Everything happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and there is no limit imposed by a server.
